Monitoring options

IBM MQ Monitoring Agent provides monitoring options that you can modify to suit the needs of your environment.

The monitoring options are specified as parameters on command statements. They are in the form of commands because each command statement can be issued dynamically as a command to the agent if you want. For normal agent operation, the command statements used during agent startup are specified in members KMQSTART and KMQUSER of the agent's RKANCMDU data set. Those two members will be set up by PARMGEN or Configuration Manager when the agent runtime is configured.

For example, you can configure the following settings:
  • Specify which queue managers, queues, and channels that you want to monitor.
  • Specify the interval for collecting IBM MQ samples.
  • Manage the disposal of event messages from an event queue.
  • Specify whether you want the agent to retain sampled data for historical collection.

By default, the IBM MQ Monitoring Agent monitors the following objects:

  • active queue managers on the LPAR
  • all channels
  • predefined queues (sampled data)
  • all queues (on-demand data)
  • events emitted to default system event queues
  • page sets
  • buffer pools
  • log manager
  • message manager
  • topic manager
  • MQ clusters
  • queue-sharing groups
  • coupling facility structures
  • shared message data sets (SMDS)
