Interchange Envelope

The interchange is the outermost EDI envelope in a data transmission.

An interchange is all of the data sent from one sender to one receiver in a single data transmission. A sender can include multiple interchanges in a single transmission, each to a different customer.

An interchange envelope encloses an interchange. An interchange header segment and interchange trailer segment pair form the interchange envelope. In a data transmission, each new interchange envelope signals a change in the sender and/or receiver.

Note: The VDA standard does not use a common set of interchange envelopes.
