Dimension sets

The dimensions suggested for each analytical requirement are grouped into dimension sets. Dimensions can belong to multiple dimension sets to indicate in which analytical requirements they are used.

A dimension represents business information needed and used by the enterprise to define the axes on which measures are analyzed in the context of an analytical requirement.

Dimension sets are organized in hierarchies using Is a Type Of or Has Types associations or both and may be viewed using the Term Type Hierarchy view in IGC. There is only one dimension set for each analytical requirement but dimensions may belong to multiple dimension sets.

Properties

Name (mandatory)

A dimension set name is composed of the name of the analytical requirement to which it belongs suffixed with Dimensions.

Parent category (mandatory)

The business category to which the dimension set belongs. All dimension sets have for parent the All Analytical Requirements category.

Short description (mandatory)

A precise and short description of the dimension set.

e.g. dimension set Credit Risk Analysis Dimensions has short description Identifies the dimensions used to categorize the measures defined for Credit Risk.

Long description (optional)

A long description of the dimension set when the short description is not sufficient to precisely define it.

Label (mandatory)

A label that identifies the type of term, the context in which this term is used, or both. All dimension sets are labeled dimension set.

Status (mandatory)

Candidate: A term that is proposed by a project team for consideration.
Note: This is the default value for the terms that are delivered in BG Pack for Financial Services.
Accepted: A term that is accepted by a project team and ready to be proposed as a standard at the enterprise level.
Standard: A term that is approved by the glossary authoring community and considered as a standard at the enterprise level.
Deprecated: A term that is designated as retired, and likely to be replaced by a standard term.

Referencing Categories (optional)

Categories that reference the dimension set. Such categories only provide a view on a subset of dimensions and are typically used to define a project scope. The scope categories are defined below the Scopes category.

Associated Terms

The business terms that are associated with this dimension set. Dimension sets are organized in hierarchies using Is a Type Of and Has Types associations.

Is A Type Of

Indicates the parent terms in the term type hierarchy. Dimension sets have one parent analytical requirement.

Has Types

Indicates the child terms in the term type hierarchy. Dimension sets contain one or more dimension terms.

Created By

The user ID of the person who creates the term. When a special user ID is used to load the business terms content from BG Pack for Financial Services, this user ID can be used to distinguish the BG Pack for Financial Services content from the customized content.
