Creating Storage as a service capacity report legacy

Create a Storage as a Service capacity report that shows the daily capacity usage over time of the storage systems. Use the information in this report to better understand storage consumption compared to capacity usage relevant to your purchased license.

About this task

The Storage as a Service report provides administrators with visibility into the capacity usage over time and base capacity of their monitored storage systems. You can use this information to identify when capacity usage exceeds their contracted base capacity and requires additional billing. Create reports to easily share information about your STaaS environments with colleagues.

Before the report is created, the IBM Technical Account Manager works with you to determine the Storage as a Service and base capacity that was purchased for the selected storage devices. Then, in the report, the used capacity of the storage devices is aggregated and the summary is compared to the base capacity to calculate the difference.

Tip: Double counting of the storage in a report might occur. Double counting can occur when a storage virtualizer and its back-end storage devices are included in the same collection. The owner of the device collection must check for this situation.

Procedure

  1. Click Reports, and then click Create Report.
  2. In the Summary Reports page, click Storage as a Service Capacity.
  3. In Name Report, type the unique name of the report, the name for the collection of devices, the Base Capacity (TB), and then click Next.
  4. In Select Storage Systems, select the devices for the report and click Next.
  5. In Time Filter, the default setting is 3 months. To select a different time period, select one of the predefined times or enter a custom time period and click Apply Filter. In a few seconds, a preview of the report is shown.
  6. Click Click Next.
  7. In Schedule Delivery, complete the following steps:
    1. Enter the email recipients and the subject for the report email. For multiple recipients, use a comma to separate each email address.
    2. To attach file versions of the report to the email, select the formats that you want to use. You can select HTML, PDF, and CSV.
    3. Schedule how often the report is run.
      • To send the report immediately, selectSend Now from the Frequency list and click Send.
      • To send the report regularly, select daily, weekly, or choose a specific day every month. Then, click Save and Schedule.

Results

The report is saved. Depending on the scheduling option, the report is sent to the recipients or scheduled to be sent later. If you want to change the configuration of the report, click Reports, select the report, and then click Edit. Important: When you edit a saved report, do not change the base capacity or the selected storage systems unless advised to do so by your Technical Account Manager. Changing these parameters might result in a report that does not accurately reflect the Storage as a Service contract.
