Settings for global alert notifications, outage notifications, and log permissions

Give IBM® Support permission to collect and upload log packages without contacting you. Specify the email addresses of the users who are notified about service outages. For IBM Storage Insights Pro, you can also configure the global alert notification settings to send notifications by email.

To access the settings for alert notifications, outage notifications, and log permissions, click Configuration > Settings.

IBM Support Log Permissions

To save time when IBM Support are working on your tickets, you can give IBM Support permission to collect and upload log packages for your storage systems without contacting you every time. You can set this permission for each storage system.Learn more about log permission options.

Outage Notifications

Outage notifications for IBM Storage Insights and IBM Storage Insights Pro are sent when the following conditions occur:
  • Metadata collection is interrupted.
  • Data collectors can't connect to the service.
  • Planned and unplanned outages occur. Planned outages occur when IBM Storage Insights or IBM Storage Insights Pro is being upgraded or maintained. Unplanned service outages are used to resolve critical incidents and minimize disruptions in service.
You can specify the email addresses of the users that you want to notify about these conditions. By default, the owner of the service is notified about outages. You can remove the owner's email address but you must specify at least one email address.
Tip: To ensure that the appropriate people are notified, include the email addresses of the users who administer your service, such as the members of your storage operations team.

Global Alert Notifications [Pro]

For IBM Storage Insights Pro, specify the email addresses of the people that you want to notify when alerts are generated for the monitored resources in your environment. The email addresses that you specify are applied globally to all alert definitions, unless overridden.

To override the global email settings, specify an email address for an alert policy or for an alert definition for a specific resource or group. Learn more about notifications and override behavior

Remove Overrides of Global Alert Notifications [Pro]

To ensure that all alert notifications are sent to the global email addresses, remove all email addresses that override the global addresses. All email addresses that are configured in the alert definitions for policies, resources, and groups are removed.

For example, an email override is specified in the alert definition for the storage system attribute, Available Capacity. When you click Remove All, the email override is removed from the alert definition. All email notifications of threshold violations for this alert will now be sent to the email addresses in the global alert notifications.

Storage system health

By default, storage system health is determined based on the status of its internal resources. You can also choose to include alerts in the health determination. If you include alerts, then in IBM Storage Insights Pro, both Storage Insights and device alerts are considered. In the free version, only device alerts are considered. Only critical and warning severity alerts are considered when determining the health of the storage systems.

To include alerts in storage system health determination, go to Settings > Storage system health, select the alert types that you want to include, and then click Save. If you are in the classic UI, go to Configuration > Settings, select the alert types under Storage System Condition section, and save the changes.

Note:
  • When you include alerts, the storage system health is determined based on internal component status and selected alert types of critical and warning severity. Restart data collection to refresh health immediately, or wait for the next scheduled probe for the update to take effect. Health is also updated when new alerts are generated or when alerts are acknowledged or unacknowledged. If you exclude alerts, storage system health is determined only by internal component status.
  • Only user with the Admin role can choose to include the alert to determine the storage system health
  • In the modern UI of IBM Storage Insights, top-level resources, such as storage systems, display Health, while in the classic UI the same value is shown as Condition. Internal resources, such as disks, display Status in both UI.
