Adding users in Cloud Pak for Data

After you provision the Planning Analytics service, you must add users to IBM® Cloud Pak for Data and provide users access to Planning Analytics Workspace.

Before you begin

To complete this task the first time, you must be the user who provisioned the service. If you add other users as Administrators for the service, they can also manage users.

Procedure

To add users to Cloud Pak for Data and Planning Analytics Workspace:

  1. Log in to the IBM Cloud Pak for Data web client.
  2. From the action menu, click Manage Users.
  3. Click New user.
  4. Specify the following information:
    • The user's full name
    • The username that the user will authenticate with
    • The user's email address
    • The user's password
  5. Select a Cloud Pak for Data role for the user, either Administrator or User.
  6. Click Create.

Results

When you add a user with the Administrator role in Cloud Pak for Data, the user is assigned the Administrator role the first time the user logs in to Planning Analytics Workspace. When Planning Analytics Workspace is connected to a Planning Analytics TM1® database within Cloud Pak for Data the user is added to the TM1 database as a member of the ADMIN group the first time the user logs in to Planning Analytics Workspace. This user has full access to Planning Analytics Workspace and the TM1 database.

When you add a user with the User role in Cloud Pak for Data, the user is assigned the Analyst role the first time the user logs in to Planning Analytics Workspace. You must add the user to the TM1 database and assign a user group to grant the user full use of Planning Analytics Workspace. Until the user is added to the TM1 database, the user can log in to Planning Analytics Workspace but cannot access the TM1 database or any objects, including books and views.

Though Cloud Pak for Data users are assigned default roles the first time they access Planning Analytics Workspace, you can modify user roles at any time after initial user creation. For full details on assigning roles and managing users in Planning Analytics Workspace, see Change a user's role.
