Setting up tracing

This topic illustrates how to set up tracing.

Summary

You can set varying tracing levels for specific Developer for z/OS® components. During execution, trace entries are produced and placed in the workspace\.metadata\.trace file. A trace shows the flow of the execution of a program and can help with troubleshooting and debugging problems.

• Open the Preferences page for Developer for z/OS and navigate to Tracing.
• Locate the component for which you need to set up tracing and set the appropriate level of tracing.
• When tracing is complete, restore the default tracing settings.
