Prerequisites for z/VM to Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization migration

Before you start the migration process, ensure that all required components, tools, and access permissions are in place.

Setup overview

The migration environment requires the following components:

  • One z/VM guest as the migration source with FCP disk attached
  • One z/VM guest as the migration management server
  • One Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform cluster with virtualization enabled and Red Hat OpenShift Data Foundation storage
  • One OpenShift Virtualization VM as the management server
  • One bastion server as the management server for the OpenShift Container Platform cluster

z/VM guest as the migration source

The z/VM guest that will be migrated requires:

  • Root access

  • FCP device support
  • Multipath tools installed
  • Sufficient storage space for the DD image creation
  • qemu-img package installed for QCOW2 conversion
  • Network connectivity to bastion server to upload the image

OpenShift Virtualization VM as the management server

The OpenShift Virtualization management VM requires:
