Assess the existing environment and map it to the target application
Start by analyzing the source application, focusing on the suitability to migrate.
Consider the following points:
- Is the source code available to be compiled and deployed on the target server?
- Does the middleware that is being used have a version available for Linux on IBM Z?
- Are there performance reports of development tests to compare with after the migration?
- Is the network and storage configuration of the application available? For example, how are the nodes of a VMware cluster connected?
- Collect the software inventory of the base software and the applications from the source system,
by using the following options:
- Customer documentation
- System administrator input from the software management system
- Tool-based input. For example, from the package manager.
- To get a list of open source packages that have been validated for s390x, go to Validated Open Source Software.
- Collect the network and the storage data of the cluster, by using the following options:
- Collect metadata of the cluster. For example, of a VMware cluster.
- Customer documentation
