Assess the existing environment and map it to the target application

Start by analyzing the source application, focusing on the suitability to migrate.

Consider the following points:

  • Is the source code available to be compiled and deployed on the target server?
  • Does the middleware that is being used have a version available for Linux on IBM Z?
  • Are there performance reports of development tests to compare with after the migration?
  • Is the network and storage configuration of the application available? For example, how are the nodes of a VMware cluster connected?
  1. Collect the software inventory of the base software and the applications from the source system, by using the following options:
    1. Customer documentation
    2. System administrator input from the software management system
    3. Tool-based input. For example, from the package manager.
  2. To get a list of open source packages that have been validated for s390x, go to Validated Open Source Software.
  3. Collect the network and the storage data of the cluster, by using the following options:
    1. Collect metadata of the cluster. For example, of a VMware cluster.
    2. Customer documentation
