NVMe over Fibre Channel (NVMf-FC)
Linux® on Power® supports attaching NVMf-FC LUNs in addition to SCSI-FC LUNs.
Supported Linux releases
- Red Hat® Enterprise Linux 8.2, or later
- SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15, Service Pack 3, or later
Supported systems
- IBM® POWER9™ and IBM Power10
Supported adapter
The following FC adapters support NVMf-FC:
- EN1A
- EN1B
- EN1L
- EN1M
- EN1N
- EN1P
Storage targets
Linux on Power Systems supports attaching Flash systems storage targets by using NVMF-FC, including FS5200, FS7200, and FS9200. For the full list of compatible devices, see IBM System Storage® Interoperation Center (SSIC).
Limitations
The following functions are not supported by NVMF-FC attached LUNS:
- Installation or Boot
- kdump or fadump
- Software RAID
- To avoid false errors with multipath configuration, the /dev/disk/by-path
approach for NVMf-FC is not supported from
systemd-254onwards. You can use /dev/disk/uuid with a filesystem mounted and /dev/disk/by-id with no filesystem mounted for persistence across reboots.
