Managing user groups

You can use user groups to enable members of the group to view virtual topics, edit source topics, and maintain clusters.

After an admin has created user groups, when Event Endpoint Management is set up, it retrieves user group information from the groups that are assigned to you in the IBM SaaS Console.

When users are added as part of a group to perform a particular task, they can only perform certain actions. The following sections describe the different types of users and the actions that they can perform. As the owner, you have elevated permissions, including the ability to assign user groups to tasks.

Virtual topic viewers

Virtual topic viewers are a group of users that, in addition to existing public virtual topics, can also view and subscribe to selected virtual topics in the catalog. Users can view and subscribe to the virtual topics that are assigned to their user group.

Virtual topic viewers can:

  • Subscribe to virtual topics.

Virtual topic viewers cannot:

  • Create, publish, or delete virtual topics.
  • Manage source topics (add or delete topics, edit topic information, or manage access).
  • Manage clusters (add, delete, or edit).

Source topic editors

Source topic editors can update topic information and manage virtual topics for the source topics that are added to their user group.

  • Edit source topic information.
  • Revoke subscriptions.
  • Manage access requests.

Cluster maintainers cannot:

  • Delete clusters.

  • Add topics from the cluster.

Application collaborators

When a user creates an application, they can add other user groups as application collaborators, who can view and edit the application.

Application collaborators can:

  • Subscribe to virtual topics with the application.
  • Edit application details.

Application collaborators cannot:

  • Delete applications.
  • Add or remove other collaborators.
