Use the Select Deployment Objective page to complete the Select
the objective for this deployment step in the checklist.
About this task
The objective of a deployment is to create a copy of the source software. The
resulting copy is referred to as the target software instance. Use the Select Deployment Objective
page to indicate whether you want the target software instance to be a new software instance on the
target system or to replace an existing software instance. If the target software instance will be
new, then select which system the new software instance will reside on, and, if the source software
is SMP/E-managed, then also select the global zone to use for the target software instance. Also, select whether to create a new target system master
catalog for it.
Procedure
- In the Objective field, select one of the following
options:
- Create a new software instance. When the
deployment is complete, the target software instance will be a new
software instance on the target system and a corresponding entry will
be added to the Software Instances table. That is, if your
installation has 10 software instances, when the deployment is complete,
there will be 11 software instances. For more details, see help topic Objective: Create a new software instance.
- Replace an existing software instance. When
the deployment is complete, the target instance will replace an existing
software instance on the target system and will replace the corresponding
entry in the Software Instances table. That is, if your installation
has 10 software instances, when the deployment is complete, there
will still be 10 software instances because the existing instance
will be deleted and the target instance will take its place. For more
details, see help topic Objective: Replace an existing software instance.
-
If
you selected the Create a new software instance option, select the Target system that the
target instance will be deployed onto.
- If you selected the Replace
an existing software instance option, in the Software Instances table,
select the software instance to be replaced. The target software instance
will reside on the same system as the software instance being replaced,
and it will be connected to the same global zone CSI.
While
the current deployment is in progress, other z/OSMF users cannot
modify, remove, or deploy the selected software instance or use another
deployment to replace it. For more details about the Software Instances table,
see help topic Software Instances page.
- In the Catalogs section, answer "Yes" or "No" to the
question: "Are you deploying z/OS"?
- If you select "No", you are not deploying z/OS. The existing master catalog is used for the
target software instance data sets.
- If you select "Yes", you are deploying z/OS. You can choose to either create a new target system
master catalog for the target software instance data sets, or use the existing master catalog for
the target software instance data sets."
- For more information, see Catalogs.
