Verifying the integrity of your software
instance
The Software Management task provides a
Software Instance Validation report, which you can use to verify the integrity of the data sets
contained in a software instance. This section describes the Software Instance Validation report and
explains how to create the report.
About the Software Instance Validation report
When you generate the Software Instance Validation report for a software instance that contains SMP/E managed software, z/OSMF compares the content of the CSI data sets defined to the software instance to the currently accessible DASD volumes, and reports any discrepancies as errors. When you generate the Software Instance Validation report for a software instance that does not contain SMP/E managed software, z/OSMF analyzes the data sets defined to the software instance to ensure they are currently accessible on DASD volumes, and reports any missing data sets as errors.
Creating the Software Instance Validation report
To generate the Software Instance Validation report, use the action that is provided for software instances.
Revalidating a software instance
To ensure that the discrepancies identified are resolved, use the Revalidate action to revalidate the software instance or use the action to regenerate the report. Invoking either action causes z/OSMF to rerun all of the validation checks for the software instance.
