Creating strategies
In Maximo® Manage 9.0, you can create strategies for your organization's unique assets. When you create a custom strategy, you can specify all unique details or copy details from the strategy library.
Before you begin
Ensure that you are a member of STRATEGYBUILDER security groups. For more information, see Reliability Strategies.
Procedure
- In Reliability Strategies, on the Custom strategies tab, click Create strategy.
- In the Strategy field, specify a unique name for the strategy.
- Optional: Specify the asset configuration. The asset configuration is some specific quality or design characteristics of the asset subclass.
- Optional: Select an asset type and an asset classification from a hierarchy or list.
- Complete the rest of the overview information. For example, you can add members of your team as co-owners of the strategy, describe business drivers or data analysis needs, and define the asset's operating contexts.
- In the Functions and functional failures section, click Add
function. Functions describe what a user requires to do; a system, process, or asset to
do along with an associated level of performance. Functional failures describe ways in which
functions fail to be met.
- In the Add function dialog, specify a function name.
- Optional: Complete other details for the function.
- Click Add to add the function.
- Optional: For the newly created function, click Add functional failure.
- In the Add functional failure dialog, specify a functional failure name.
- Optional: Specify a description.
- Click Add. The functional failure is added to the function. Expand the function to view the functional failure.
- Click Create and save your strategy as Draft. Save your strategy before you can add failure details or explore actions.
- On the Failure modes tab, click Add failure mode.
- Click Create from template to create a custom failure more or select an existing failure mode from the table and then click Create from selected.
- In the Failure mode details section, specify the following information:
- In the Component field, specify the asset component that can fail.
- In the Failure mechanism field, specify why the failure occurs, such as due to wear or a leak. A mechanism is similar to a problem failure code.
- In the Failure influence field, specify how the failure occurs, such as due to improper installation or age. An influence is similar to a cause failure code.
- In the Failure effects field, specify what happens when the failure occurs.
- In the Failure consequences field, specify how the effects of a failure matter.
- In the Failure class field, select a failure
class. The Problem code field is enabled after you select a failure class.
- In the Problem code field, select a problem
code. The Cause code field is enabled after you select a problem code.
- In the Cause code field, select a cause code.
You can also bulk import failure mode details. For more information, see IBM Marketplace. - Complete the rest of the failure mode details. For example, you can configure the risk
priority number (RPN) calculations, specify discovery opportunities for the failure, and add actions
that can detect and resolve the failure before it occurs. Actions are similar but typically more general than the mitigation activities that are available in the strategy library.
- Click Select actions to select or create actions to detect and
resolve the failure mode. Note: You can create actions for a strategy from the Actions tab as well.
- In the Select actions dialog, select an existing action from the table or click Create action to create an action.
- In the Create action dialog, in the Name field, specify a unique name for the action.
- In the Type field, select an action type.
- Optional: Complete the rest of the action details. For example, you can add a description or select the frequency.
- Click Create to create the action.
- Select the newly created action and click OK to add it to the failure mode.
- Click Save failure mode.
- Click Select actions to select or create actions to detect and
resolve the failure mode.
- Click Save to save the strategy.
- When the strategy is ready to be reviewed by your team, click Save and set the status to Ready for review.
- When the strategy is reviewed and ready to be used, click Save and
set the status to Complete. After the status asset is set to Complete, you cannot make any changes to the strategy.
- Optional: Create mitigation activities for the
strategy.
- On the Mitigation activities tab, click Create mitigation activity.
- In the Name field, specify a unique name for the mitigation activity.
- Optional: Complete the rest of the mitigation activity details. For example, you can add a description, select if the mitigation activity is recurring or non-recurring, or specify labor hours.
- Click Create to create the mitigation activity.
- Optional: Assign assets to the strategy.
- On the Assets tab, click Assign assets.
- Select one or more assets.
- Click OK to assign the strategy to the assets.
- Review recommended actions for the strategy. Recommended actions are any actions on the Failure modes tab that have Tracking set to on.
