Importing pattern types

You can import a new pattern type into the system.

Before you begin

You must be assigned the Create new catalog content role or the Workload resources administration role with full permissions to complete this task.

About this task

If the pattern type was packaged with other artifacts, such as script packages and add-ons, those artifacts are imported with the pattern type. Existing artifacts are not overwritten by this process.
Restriction: Most browsers limit uploads to around 2 GB. If the file for the pattern type exceeds this limit, you might not be able to upload it by using the browser interface; in this case, you must use the command-line interface. See the Related information section.

Procedure

  1. Click Catalog > Pattern Types. If you are on 2.3.3.3, click Pattern development > Components > Pattern Types.
  2. Click the New icon in the toolbar.
  3. Specify the file details.
    • To upload a local file, click the Local tab. Click Browse to select the .tgz file that contains the pattern type.
    • To upload a remote file, click the Remote tab and specify the URL of the file. If prompted to log on to the remote site to access the file, specify the user name and password.
  4. Optional: Select the Overwrite option to overwrite the existing pattern type on this system.
This option is useful if an error occurred during a previous import. With this option selected, you do not need to delete the pattern type before you attempt to import the pattern type again. Only an existing pattern type with the exact version (VRMF) of the pattern type that you import is overwritten.
    CAUTION:
If you overwrite the existing pattern type, it is restored to its original state. Any modifications that were made to the pattern type, such as configuration of plug-ins or modifications to embedded patterns or scripts, are lost.
  5. Click OK.

What to do next

Now you must accept the license agreement of the pattern type, configure plug-ins in this pattern type, and enable the pattern type if you want to use it.
