Deploy and manage shared services for applications in a cloud group.
Before you begin
To view shared services, you must be assigned either the Workload resources administration with full permissions or
the Cloud administrator role.
Important:
Once you deploy a shared service, you cannot modify the default operating system.
If you want to use a different default operating system, all previous shared service instances must
be re-deployed with the new operating system.
Shared services can only be created and owned by a user who is an administrator.
Unlike application or system instances, their ownership cannot be changed.
About this task
- You can use the console or the command line interface to complete this task. For the command line information, see the Related information section.
- You can deploy only one instance of a type of shared service in
a cloud group,
which is a physical group of hardware that defines a cloud. This shared
service can be used by all application deployments in the cloud group.
Procedure
- Click . If you are on 2.3.3.3 or later, click
.
- Select the shared service for deployment.
- Click Deploy in the toolbar and configure the following
general properties for the shared service.
- Name
- Type the name of the application that is being shared as a service. Do not use more than two
consecutive underscore characters in a shared service name.
- Target cloud group
- Select the target cloud group that is
associated with the shared service.
- Filter by IP type
- Click IPv4 or IPv6 to indicate the IP type that is
associated with the shared service.
- Filter by environment profile type
- Select the type of environment profile that is associated with the shared service.
- Profile
- Select a profile. The profile provides information that is related to a deployment
configuration, such as virtual machine names, IP address assignment, and cloud groups. Deploying patterns with profiles
enables deployments across tiers from a single pattern.
- IP group
- Select the IP group that is associated
with the shared service.
- Operating System Family
- Select the operating system family to use when deploying the shared service.
Note: Only Linux® is supported at this time. Windows is not a supported operating system family for shared
services.
- SSH Key
- To upload a public key so that you can connect to the deployed virtual machines using SSH,
complete the SSH section and specify the SSH public key. If you do not have an existing SSH key
pair, you can generate one that can be reused with other deployments. Click
Generate. The SSH Key field populates with the
generated public key. Select Click here to download the file containing the private
key and save the private key to your local system.
By downloading and
saving the key, you can access your virtual machines even if the appliance loses connectivity or
encounters problems.
- Configure the properties specific to the shared service. The specific
configuration properties vary depending on the shared service you are working with. For more
information about each shared service and their properties, see the deployment procedure in Table 1.
What to do next
To stop the shared service, click the Stop the
selected shared service icon. The shared service status
is displayed as STOPPED in the details.
