Scenario: Applying pickup schedules

This scenario demonstrates how pickup schedules impact promising calculations for pickup orders. By defining pickup schedules, you control when pickups occur during the day to align with inventory and capacity that is available. Pickup schedules help to provide accurate promising dates to customers and they reduce the risk of fulfillment delays.

Example 1: Defining a pickup with a schedule

In this example, the following scenario is available:

  • Lead time: 0 minutes
  • Processing time: Not defined
  • Pickup cutoff: Not defined
  • Pickup schedule: 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM
  • Capacity workflow window: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
  • Pickup requests: 7:30 AM, 12 noon, and 5:30 PM

Result

  • Order at 7:30 AM: The capacity is not available until 8:00 AM. The earliest pickup is 10:00 AM and the pickup window ends at 8:00 PM.
  • Order at 12 noon: The capacity is not available until 1:00 PM. The earliest pickup is 1:00 PM and the pickup window ends at 8:00 PM.
  • Order at 5:30 PM: The capacity is not available until 9:00 AM the following day. The earliest pickup is 10:00 AM and the pickup window ends at 8:00 PM.

Pickup schedules restrict pickups to certain times of the day for you to manage pickups more efficiently. When you factor in the inventory and capacity windows available, you can ensure that promising dates are met and that they are accurate.

Example 2: Defining a pickup without a schedule

In this example, the following scenario is available:
  • Lead time: 0 minutes
  • Processing time: 1 hour, which is defined in the capacity workflow
  • Notification time: Not defined
  • Capacity workflow window: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
  • Pickup cutoff: 12:30 PM
Result
  • Order at 10:00 AM: The processing time starts at 10 AM for one hour. The pickup schedule is not defined so the order can be picked up from 11 AM to midnight.
  • Order at 2:00 PM: The order is placed after the 12:30 PM cutoff. The capacity workflow window starts at 1:00 PM and the processing time starts at 2:00 PM. The order can be picked up at 3:00 PM but as the request came in after the cutoff time, it isn't available for pickup until after midnight from 00:00 hours to 23:59 hours the next day.

By defining pickups without a schedule, you are not restricted to fulfilling orders at specific times of the day. You have more flexibility to provide customers with pickups over a more extended period throughout the day.
