File system based disaster recovery prerequisites

Following is a list of prerequisites that must be met to successfully set up and use the file system replication based disaster recovery solution on IAS.

  • Note that this functionality is not available on customer-supplied rack M4002-001 model. Ensure that you have system with integrated rack installed.
  • Ensure that you have two IAS systems that are the same model type and on the same version of software, which is IAS version 1.0.10.0 or higher. These systems can be local to your data center or they can be geographically dispersed.
  • Ensure that you have a high-bandwidth network connection between the two IAS appliances. It is recommended to have a network link of 10 Gbps or more for good overall performance.
  • Both the primary and the secondary system must have an external host name configured. Moreover, all nodes of both systems must be configured with an external IP and a host name. Such settings are required to support HA for the appliances. It is recommended to configure and provide IP addresses for at least three nodes of each of the appliances.
  • Ensure that both systems are reachable and can connect to each other by the host names of their appliances, and by all the external IP addresses of the nodes.
  • DR services on both appliances run on port 7000. Ensure that this port is not blocked by any firewall.

Note that when this solution is set up, you cannot access the database running on the secondary system for any database-related tasks. The database on the secondary system is only started when the secondary system is converted to an active primary role.

Parameters required for setup

The following parameters are required to set up disaster recovery between two IAS systems:
  • Host names of the primary and secondary system.
  • External IP address of all (or subset) of the nodes of the primary and secondary system.
  • The interval value (in seconds) for the primary system to establish recovery points (take peer snapshots), based on your recovery point objective. The minimum value of this interval is 3 hours (10800 seconds). Default value is 24 hours (86400 seconds).
