Deprecation notice for IBM SDK, Java Technology Edition, Version 8 on Sterling Order Management System platform

IBM Sterling® Order Management System on SaaS and containers is transitioning from IBM® SDK, Java™ Technology Edition, Version 8 to IBM Semeru Runtime® Open Edition for Java 21 with Eclipse OpenJ9+ with ongoing support for IBM Semeru JDK 21+. You must migrate to IBM Semeru JDK 21+ as it will be the supported version for all applications.

Why is it deprecated?

IBM JDK 8 is being deprecated for Sterling™ Order Management System as part of the transition to IBM Semeru JDK 21, which offers better performance, security, and long-term support. By moving to IBM Semeru JDK 21, customers can benefit from modern Java capabilities and continued product support.

IBM Semeru JDK 21 migration schedule for SaaS customers

The following schedule outlines the phases of the migration process for IBM Semeru JDK 21 on Sterling Order Management System for SaaS customers:

  • Availability of the developer toolkit (DTK) for SaaS customers on IBM Semeru JDK 21 - 1 July 2024 onwards
    SaaS customers can download the DTK, which is based on IBM Semeru JDK 21, directly from Self Service and use it for integration and customization testing. Report any issues that are encountered during the migration process to IBM Support.
  • Testing in lower environments
    Customers must complete their testing with the IBM Semeru JDK 21 DTK in lower environments for all customizations before they move to the production deployment. Report any issues to IBM Support.
  • Migration period began 1 July 2024
    Customers can begin the migration anytime after 1 July 2024 after they successfully test their integrations and customizations with the IBM Semeru JDK 21 DTK. IBM Support is available to help ensure a smooth and seamless migration process.
