Backing up Faspex secrets

Use this procedure to back up and validate Faspex secrets.

Procedure

  1. Install and set up Faspex.
  2. After setup is complete, locate and navigate to the backup directory /opt/aspera/faspex/conf/backup_secrets. You should see one or more folders named in the format secrets.<timestamp>.
  3. Verify the contents of the backup:
    1. Access the folder with the most recent date (For example: secrets.20250528100814).
    2. Ensure the folder contains asecrets.enc file(s) and a keys/ directory.
  4. Test the backup restoration.
    1. Remove the existing contents of the secrets directory:
      /opt/aspera/faspex/secrets
    2. Restore from the latest backup:
      cp -rivp /opt/aspera/faspex/conf/backup_secrets/secrets.LATEST_TIMESTAMP/* /opt/aspera/faspex/secrets/
      Note: Replace LATEST_TIMESTAMP with the actual folder name.
    3. Restart the Faspex containers and verify that they start successfully and operate normally, this will confirm that the backup is valid.
    Important: A new backup folder named secrets is automatically created under /opt/aspera/faspex/conf/backup_secrets each time you run the setup ensuring the latest secrets are preserved.
