Using project variables in a connector account

Learn how to use project variables in a connector account to dynamically substitute values at run time.

Before you begin

Ensure that all project variables are defined before using them in connector account fields. Otherwise, an error occurs at run time.

About this task

Note:
  • This feature is not available by default. Contact IBM® support to enable the feature.
  • Supported for connectors used in flow services, whether created independently or within workflows.
  • Not supported for the SAP S/4HANA® Cloud, SAP S/4HANA Marketing Cloud, and Workday connectors.

Procedure

  1. Create or open a connector account.
  2. From the Authorization Type drop-down menu, select the required option.
  3. Provide values in the fields using project variables, as needed.
You can use either of the following methods:
    • Type % to insert a project variable, and enter the variable name enclosed within % symbols. For example: %Var1%
    • Click the Substitute project variables icon next to the field and select the required variable.
Important: For password fields, the Substitute project variables icon lists only project variables that are defined as password variables.
    Supported fields
Project variable substitution is supported in all fields except transient fields and fields with predefined drop-down values. Transient fields (such as access token and refresh token) are excluded because their values change dynamically between initial configuration and run time.
Note: Changes to a project variable take effect only after disabling and re-enabling the connector account.
