Transferring private project ownership

You can transfer ownership of a private project to another user.

Before you begin

  • You must be an administrator or a project owner to transfer the project ownership.
  • Make sure that the new user has appropriate access rights admin, developer to manage the project effectively.

About this task

Transferring ownership of a project is a critical administrative task, particularly when the current owner changes roles, leaves the organization, or delegates responsibilities. This process makes sure that the project remains accessible and manageable by authorized personnel, maintaining operational continuity and security.
Note: You cannot transfer ownership of public projects.

Procedure

  1. On the Projects page, select a private project that you own.
  2. On the project card, click Overflow menu > Transfer Ownership. The Select new owner for the project dialog is displayed.
  3. From the list, select the user to whom you want to transfer ownership, and then click Proceed.
  4. In the Transfer Ownership dialog, select the Keep me as a collaborator checkbox to retain access for the project. Otherwise, you cannot access the project after the transfer is complete.
    Note: The Keep me as a collaborator checkbox appears only when the Transfer Ownership dialog is accessed from the project card’s Overflow menu > Transfer Ownership option.
  5. Click Transfer.
    A confirmation message indicating that ownership was transferred is displayed.
