Configuring Microsoft Device Specific Module (MSDSM)

Use the Microsoft Device Specific Module (MSDSM) multipathing driver for the Windows Server operating system. MSDSM is included in the Windows Server operating system and Hyper-V.

The Microsoft Multipath I/O (MPIO) feature must also be enabled when using MSDSM .

Complete the following steps to install MSDSM on the Windows Server operating system.
  1. To use MSDSM, install the Microsoft Multipath I/O (MPIO) feature by using the Add Roles and Features wizard in the Windows Server Manager.
  2. Open the MPIO Properties window from the MPIO application in Windows Administrative Tools.
  3. Select IBM 2145 on the Discover Multi-Paths tab in the MPIO Properties window and click Add.
  4. Click OK to restart the host when prompted. Wait for the host to restart.
  5. Open Windows PowerShell and enter the mpclaim -s -d command.

    Ensure that MSDSM is installed correctly and can claim the volumes correctly. Use the default MSDSM settings.
