Data migration

This topic describes methods to migrate data.

Data migration applications

Data migration has the following characteristics and applications:
  • Storage partitions can be non-disruptively migrated between systems in a FlashSystem grid. For details, see Migrating storage partitions between systems.
  • The system supports migrating existing volumes to a data reduction pool with volume mirroring. For details, see Moving volumes to a data reduction pool.
  • For systems with encryption enabled, you can migrate existing volumes from non-encrypted pools to encrypted pools. For details, see Migrating volumes to an encrypted pool.
  • Changes the MDisks to which the volume is allocated.
  • Does not disrupt access to the volume data.
  • Can be used when you are removing MDisks from a clustered system.
  • Can move data to an MDisk that has appropriate performance for host requirements.
  • Can move data from image mode volumes to MDisks when you are adding a system to an existing SAN infrastructure.
  • Can migrate striped and sequential volumes to an image mode volume.

For more information on the command-line interface, see Migration commands.
