Scheduling move and rename jobs

You can schedule move and rename jobs to run at a specific date and time, providing flexibility in managing object migrations and organizational changes.

About job scheduling

The Move/Rename feature allows you to schedule entity move/rename jobs or non-entity move jobs to execute at a future date and time. This capability enables you to plan object migrations during off-peak hours or coordinate changes with other system activities.

When you create a move or rename job, it is initially added to the Move/Rename queue with a pending status. You can then schedule the job to run automatically at your specified time, or you can choose to run it immediately regardless of any scheduled time.

Key features

  • Schedule jobs for both entity and non-entity moves
  • Set custom date and time for job execution
  • Override scheduled time to run jobs immediately when needed
  • Monitor job status in the Move/Rename queue
  • Automatic status updates upon job completion

Scheduling workflow

The typical workflow for scheduling a move or rename job includes the following steps:

  1. Create an entity or non-entity move job using the Move/Rename option in Settings
  2. Complete the job configuration and click Done
  3. Locate the job in the Move/Rename queue with a pending status
  4. Access the job options menu (three dots) at the end of the job row
  5. Select Schedule job from the menu
  6. Set the desired date and time in the scheduling dialog
  7. Click Save to confirm the schedule

The job will execute automatically at the scheduled time, and its status will be updated accordingly upon completion.

Running scheduled jobs immediately

Even after scheduling a job for a future date and time, you retain the flexibility to run it immediately if circumstances change. To run a scheduled job immediately:

  1. Locate the scheduled job in the Move/Rename queue
  2. Click the options menu (three dots) at the end of the job row
  3. Select the Start job option to run the job instantly

This override capability ensures that you can respond to urgent requirements without having to delete and recreate the job.

Job status tracking

The queue displays the current status of all jobs, including scheduled jobs. Status values include:

  • Started
  • Running
  • Pending
  • Scheduled
  • Finished Successfully
  • Terminated by User
  • Finished with Error
  • Terminated by System

Monitor the queue regularly to ensure that scheduled jobs execute as planned and to address any issues that may arise.
