Use the Studio low-code designers to build business applications and automations.
Authorization
To work with artifacts in Studio, you need one or more of the following roles:
- Create business applications: Studio Authors role
- Create workflow automations: Workflow Authors role
- Publish applications to the Studio repository: Studio Administrators role
- Administer workflow assets, servers, and security: Workflow Administrators role
Building business applications
Business applications are composed of user interfaces and automations services. Applications are usually based on templates or starter applications that are created by a more technical user. Templates are composed of toolkits, which are libraries of building blocks (or assets) that can be used to create applications.

Building business automations
A business automation is a collection of artifacts that fulfills a business purpose. You can
build workflow and external business automations:
- A workflow automation provides the framework or model for sequencing and delegating work to address a specific business situation.
- An external automation contains implementations from outside Studio that you can publish as automation services you can call and reuse in a consistent way, for example from a user interface.
