OpenTelemetry tracing with IBM MQ on AIX, Linux, and Windows

Queue managers running on AIX®, Linux®, or Windows can take part in traces, and integrate into an OpenTelemetry environment, by installing the IBM® MQ OpenTelemetry tracing service.

The IBM MQ OpenTelemetry tracing service is implemented as an IBM MQ API exit. Your IBM MQ entitlement only permits use of the IBM MQ Tracing exit component of the IBM Instana® supporting program. Separate entitlement is required for the component that collects trace data, such as IBM Instana or an OTel Collector.

Issues arising from the use of the exit must be reported to IBM MQ Support unless you are using the tracing exit with an IBM Instana monitoring system and IBM Instana entitlement.

The exit can be downloaded here: https://ibm.biz/mqinstanaexit.

For information on how to install and configure IBM MQ tracing, see Enabling IBM MQ Tracing user exit for on-premises IBM MQ in the IBM Instana Observability documentation.

Details of the supported platforms for the IBM Instana IBM MQ exit can be found here: Supported platforms for on-premises IBM MQ.
