PowerReports FAQ

Review answers to frequently asked questions about PowerReports.

Question: I’ve just set up a user. Can the user access PowerReports?

Answer: For the system to propagate a new user, you must wait until an overnight refresh has occurred, and then the user can access PowerReports.

Question: Why is my slicer or table not changing when I apply a filter or use a slicer?

Answer:
  • In the monthly dataset, tables do not cross-filter. Therefore, using a slicer to, for example, choose a group, does not filter another slicer or table that contains location names or account names.
  • For any filtering to apply to tables, you need to add a field that contains raw data that relates to the item, for example, any consumption or cost values.
  • For any filtering to apply to slicers that you have created, you need to add a field to the Filters on this Visual, in the filters panel. The field must contain raw data that relates to the item that you need to filter, for example, the Days of Data field from the Other table.
  • After you have added the field to the Filters on this Visual panel, set the filter combo box to is not blank. All items that do not contain any data are removed from the list, and only a list of relevant selections is shown.

Question: How do I format the values of fields in my tables or visuals?

Answer:
  • Select the Visual that you want to change.
  • In the Visualizations tab, click the middle button, and then click Format your visual > General > Data format.
  • Select the field that you want to change the format of, and then either choose a format or select custom to create your own format.
  • For more information about the custom formats, see Use custom format strings in Power BI Desktop.

Question: Why is my data much higher than I expect it to be?

Answer:
  • It is possible that you have removed the filters that apply to tags or groups.
  • By default, the following two filters should typically be applied across the entire report unless you have specific reporting needs:
    • Group Type = “Classification”
    • Tag Type = “Consolidation”
  • Other translations of the filtered item names might also be present in standard PowerReports.

Question: Why are there two versions of some tables, for example, Ratio and Ratios, Data Type Group and Data Type Groups, or Social Metric and Social Metrics?

Answer:
  • The tables are dynamic tables and each table has a different structure.
  • The tables for which the name does not end with “s” are each configured as a large table with fields that return the amount, and fields that contain item relevant data, such as Social Metric Name. The tables contains variance and previous year fields, and you can filter them by using slicers or filters.
  • The tables for which the name ends with “s” contain standalone fields, where each field is named after the item that it refers to. The tables returns only the values that are related to the item. Use fields from the table when you need to include the numbers side by side in visuals without the requirement to filter.
  • For more information, see Monthly dataset - dynamic fields.

  • Region
  • Group
  • Measure
  • Location
  • Item
  • Tags

Question: Can I set a PowerReport as a favorite?

Answer: Yes, to mark a PowerReport as a favorite click the star that is next to the name of the PowerReport. You can then click the column heading to sort by PowerReports that have been starred.
Note: Favorite PowerReports are not displayed in the Report > Favorites tab because the Reports pages show only CSV extract reports.
