Preview Extracting utility bill data with AI
IBM® Envizi ESG Suite provides an AI-powered capability to extract data from utility bill attachments and populate values during manual data capture. The feature reduces manual effort and improves accuracy when you capture energy and utility data. Functionality can change for this preview feature. Review the data that AI extracted before you save the capture data form.
Before you begin

The utility bill data extraction feature is enabled by default for all users during the preview period. System administrators can disable the feature in organization preferences and hide the Extract values button in the Capture form form:- Click .
- Change the Utility Bill Data Extraction setting to Disabled.
About this task
During data capture, you can upload a utility bill file in either PDF, image, CSV, or text file
format and choose to analyze the file by using AI models. AI data extraction works best with
documents that meet the following requirements:
- Standard utility bill formats
- Clearly legible PDFs or scanned documents
- Documents that contain structured billing tables
Note: The account number in an uploaded utility bill must match either the account number or
reference in Envizi ESG Suite. The validation ensures that the data is
correctly attributed to the appropriate account. A warning message is displayed if the data does not
correspond to an existing account.
AI identifies and populates the following values:- Billing period
- Invoice number
- Consumption, for example, kWh, water usage
- Cost and charges
Important: The AI model is tuned for utility billing accounts, but the AI extraction
feature is enabled for all account styles by default. System administrators can disable AI
extraction in the organization preferences.

Note the
following points:
- Not all file formats are supported.
- Some fields might not be extracted consistently.
- Not all fields from account styles are populated.
- Complex or nonstandard layouts might require manual entry.

What to do next
Because AI-generated values are suggestions, always review them. Do the following checks before
you save the form:
- Compare extracted values with the document preview.
- Correct any missing or incorrect fields.
- Ensure that units and reporting periods are accurate.
