Backups and disaster recovery

Review the backup and disaster recovery practices for IBM® Envizi ESG Suite.

Application backups

Data that is used by applications within Envizi ESG Suite is backed up daily. All backups are encrypted and stored in a separate AWS or Azure data center. Communication between applications, backup scripts, the storage layer, and database services is performed through secure transport, and accessed only through private endpoints.

System configuration backups

Each component of Envizi ESG Suite is backed up by using the appropriate tool. In general, the following characteristics apply to all component backups:
  • Encrypted
  • Taken daily
  • Stored in a separate data center
  • Saved for seven days

Database backup retention

Database backups are retained for a standard duration of 21 days.

Disaster recovery

If a disaster affects a specific Envizi ESG Suite region or site, IBM prioritizes recovery in the following order:
  1. Recover the existing infrastructure in place
  2. Recover to a secondary AWS or Azure data center
The following disaster recovery parameters apply:
Recovery Time Objective (RTO)
72 hours, which is the maximum time to restore application availability
Recovery Point Objective (RPO)
1 hour, which is the maximum time since the last data backup

The parameters are Service Level Objectives (SLOs), not Service Level Agreements (SLAs). IBM conducts annual disaster recovery testing based on ISO-27001 guidelines for each region where the Envizi ESG Suite platform is available.
