Manually configuring Data Protection for SQL Server on Windows Server Core
You can manually configure Data Protection for SQL Server to protect your SQL Server on Windows Server Core.
Before you begin
Ensure that you install Data Protection for SQL Server and the IBM Spectrum Protect backup-archive client on the system that runs the Microsoft SQL Server.
Ensure that you install Data Protection for SQL Server and the IBM Spectrum Protect backup-archive client on the system that runs the Microsoft SQL Server.
Procedure
- Create a node on the IBM Spectrum
Protect server for
the backup-archive client and Data Protection for SQL Server.
If you are protecting availability databases in an AlwaysOn Availability Group, you must also create the AlwaysOn node on the IBM Spectrum Protect server.
- If you intend to run offloaded VSS backups, set up a remote node to run the offloaded backup operation on a remote computer.
- Configure the backup-archive client options file (dsm.opt).
- Configure the Data Protection for SQL Server option files (dsm.opt and tdpsql.cfg).
- If you use IBM Spectrum Protect policy sets, specify a management class to use for your Data Protection for SQL Server backups.
