Understanding Network Performance Feature data processing
The following figure illustrates the basic data flow for the IBM Z Decision Support Network Performance Feature.
The main steps in this data flow are:
- 1
- NetView and NetView Performance Monitor (NPM) collect network performance data.
- 2
- External availability data is collected to form an external availability log (optional step).
- 3
- NetView, NPM, and NetView FTP write data to the SMF log.
- 4
- IBM Z Decision Support uses record definitions to collect specified records from the SMF log.
- 5
- IBM Z Decision Support writes data to the component tables.
- 6
- The Network Performance Feature adds environment data (resource information, threshold information, product ID information, code conversion information) to the component tables as SMF data is stored.
- 7
- IBM Z Decision Support creates reports with data from tables and additional environment data.
The following sections describe each of these steps in detail. detail.
