Understanding Network Performance Feature data processing

The following figure illustrates the basic data flow for the IBM Z Decision Support Network Performance Feature.

Basic Network feature data flow

The main steps in this data flow are:

1
NetView and NetView Performance Monitor (NPM) collect network performance data.
2
External availability data is collected to form an external availability log (optional step).
3
NetView, NPM, and NetView FTP write data to the SMF log.
4
IBM Z Decision Support uses record definitions to collect specified records from the SMF log.
5
IBM Z Decision Support writes data to the component tables.
6
The Network Performance Feature adds environment data (resource information, threshold information, product ID information, code conversion information) to the component tables as SMF data is stored.
7
IBM Z Decision Support creates reports with data from tables and additional environment data.

The following sections describe each of these steps in detail. detail.
