Service level objectives widgets

You can create custom dashboard widgets for your service level objectives (SLOs) and Apdex configurations to display and analyze service performance over time.

Note: SLOs and SLOs widgets (legacy) are separate capabilities.

SLO widgets

SLO widgets display either an Error budget chart or an Indicator chart. You can configure the widget to display data over the configured time window of SLO or the time range that you select in the UI time picker.

The following image shows an error budget SLO widget named Demo Widget. The widget uses an application SLO named Example Application SLO with a target value of 99%. The time span is set to 6 hours and displays data based on the user-selected time range. The SLO uses a latency indicator blueprint with an event count type and a threshold value of 75 milliseconds. In this example, the SLO was not achieved because the remaining error budget fell below 0.

Adding SLO widgets

You can create an SLO widget for any of your SLOs. To add an SLO widget, open one of your custom dashboards and access the Adding a Widget dialog. Then, complete the following steps:

  1. In the dialog sidebar, click SLO > Next. The configuration section opens.
  2. Select whether you want to create a widget for an application SLO or a website SLO.
  3. In the Add widget – SLO window, select an SLO. You must create SLO configurations in the Service levels section before you can use them in widgets. For more information, see Creating an SLO.
  4. Select the chart type: Error budget chart or Indicator chart.
  5. Enter a title for the widget.
  6. Review your widget in the preview pane.
Note: If no preview appears, click Highlight missing configuration to identify missing required fields.
  7. Click Create to create the SLO widget configuration.
  8. Click Save changes to save the widget to your custom dashboard.

Using SLO widgets

SLO widgets allow you to choose the time frame for displaying data. Use the controls on the widget to select either Selected time or SLO time window.

  • Selected time: Displays data for the time period that you choose in the time picker. For example, if you set the time picker to the last 6 hours, the widget displays data for that period. If the selected time spans multiple windows, each window appears in a unique color in the charts. The status and error budget values reflect the most recent SLO time window in the selected range.
  • SLO time window: Displays data for the time window that is configured for the selected SLO. If the selected time spans multiple windows, the widget displays data from the most recent SLO time window.
Note: The SLO status and error budget values in the widget summary are always calculated against the entire SLO time window. Dynamic recalculation based on the time picker selection is not supported.

SLO widgets display either an Error budget chart or an Indicator chart. You select the chart type when you create the widget. Each widget displays only one chart type. To view both chart types, create two separate widgets and select a different chart type for each.
