OS Process sensor releases

Instana monitors operating system processes by using the Instana OS Process sensor. The sensor provides insights into the health and performance of operating system processes.

For more information, see Monitoring OS Process.

Release 1.1.60

OS Process sensor 1.1.60 is released on 27 February 2026.

Improvements

This release adds support for counting the open file descriptors when the agent runs in non-root mode.

Release 1.1.59

OS Process sensor 1.1.59 is released on 25 February 2026.

Features

This release introduces a new feature that detects a high open file count in a Linux process and generates an agent monitoring issue.

Release 1.1.58

OS Process sensor 1.1.58 is released on 12 February 2026.

Fixes

This release fixes the argument and service-based process discovery issue.

Release 1.1.55

OS Process sensor 1.1.55 is released on 22 September 2025.

Improvements

This release optimizes CPU usage by reducing repeated queries across processes for CPU count.

Release 1.1.54

OS Process sensor 1.1.54 is released on 15 July 2025.

Features

You can now view the normalized CPU Usage metrics on the Process dashboard.

Release 1.1.53

OS Process sensor 1.1.53 is released on 2 July 2025.

Features

You can now configure the OS Process sensor to send data at a different rate by using the poll_rate parameter.

Release 1.1.51

OS Process sensor 1.1.50 is released on 22 October 2024.

Fixes

Previously, the OS Process sensor on Mac failed to collect metrics, which resulted in missing metrics. This issue is now fixed, and the sensor keeps the entity alive even when the data is not changed.

Release 1.1.50

OS Process sensor 1.1.50 is released on 9 October 2024.

Improvements

This release adds support for heartbeat to the OS Process sensor, which reduces the data that is sent to the Instana backend. The agent only sends data every 3 seconds if the backend supports the heartbeat.
