The .NET sensor supports the following operating systems and runtimes.

Instana supports multiple Linux distributions and architectures to ensure broad compatibility for the Instana Intermediate Language (IL) Rewriter native library as outlined in the following table:

Supported runtimes
Important: Instana Tracing Core 1.315.5, released on 30 March 2026, requires the Bullseye-based container image mcr.microsoft.com/dotnet/sdk:5.0-bullseye-slim for .NET 5, .NET Core 3.1, and earlier versions. Default .NET 5 images use Debian Buster, which includes an outdated
libstdc++ version. Because that version does not provide the required GLIBCXX symbols, the profiler cannot load and instrumentation does not start. For more information and available workaround options, see the Technote. Instana supports monitoring applications that run on .Net 5.0 and later.
Note: .NET 9 instrumentation is supported. However, profiling is currently unsupported due to tech limitations.
Note: Support for .NET Core 2.0 and later is deprecated.
Note: .NET refers to the implementation of .NET that is recommended for all new development: .NET 5 (and .NET Core) and later versions. .NET and .NET Core naming conventions are not used in this document. Instead, the new .NET naming convention is used for consistency.

Supported libraries and frameworks for tracing
Important: Instana with .NET Core sensor 1.0.90 and .NET Tracer 1.315.1 release (13 March 2026) restricts instrumentation to library versions explicitly listed in the following table. Unsupported versions are not instrumented. To ensure continued support, upgrade to supported versions. For more details and workaround options, see the Technote.

To prevent creating spans for logs with lower level than the configured level, set the environment variable INSTANA_LOG_LEVEL_CAPTURE to WARN*, ERROR, or OFF (to disable). The default value is WARN.
