Monitoring tool usage

You can monitor tool activity on the Instana UI. The tool metrics include total tool usage, call statistics, error rates, response times, and insights into the most frequently invoked tools and commonly occurring errors.

To view tool metrics, click GenAI observability > Summary > Tool metrics.

The following metrics are displayed.

Parameter Description
Tools Total number of tools used
Tool calls Total number of calls initiated by all the tools
Erroneous tool call rate

The rate of erroneous calls in percentage

The number of calls with errors
Tool response time Total response time for the tool
Tool calls

The total number of calls made by all the tools, the metrics include:

  • The total number of successful calls
  • The total number of erroneous calls

You can filter the calls by any of the following criteria:

  • Call count
  • By tool
  • By service
Top tools invoked

The tools that were used most frequently and the number of times each tool was invoked. You can filter the tools by using any of the following criteria:

  • Calls
  • Errors
Top errors The errors that occurred the most and the number times the errors occurred.
