Setting up the IBM Content Collector integration

To set up the integration with IBM® Content Collector, first create a knowledge base, decision plan, or both a knowledge base and decision plan, and publish to the IBM Content Classification server. Then configure the Content Collector server and add Content Classification to the task route. You can also configure Classification Center to enable review of documents after they are ingested into your repository.

Before you begin

Before you complete this task, install Content Collector and Content Classification.
Tip: For better scaling and performance, install Content Collector and Content Classification on separate servers.

When you set up the integration, ensure that your firewalls are properly configured to allow communication between IBM Content Classification and IBM Content Collector.

Procedure

To set up the integration between Content Classification and Content Collector:

  1. Build and deploy a Content Classification knowledge base, decision plan, or both a knowledge base and decision plan in Classification Workbench. For more information, see Building decision plans for the IBM Content Collector integration.
Tip: Ensure that the sample content that you use when building and training the knowledge base is representative of the content that will be classified. To obtain sample content from your repository in a format that can be imported into Classification Workbench, run the Content Extractor. For more information, see the following topics:
  2. Configure the Content Collector server. For more information, see Integrating Content Classification into Content Collector.
  3. In the Content Collector Configuration Manager, add an IBM Content Classification task to your task route and configure the task. For more information, see IBM Content Classification task reference.
Tip: In typical task routes for email archiving, there is an instance of the EC Prepare Email for Archiving task before the EC Extract Attachments task. To ensure that attachments are archived separately, the Save native message files without attachments check box is selected by default.

You must add another instance of the EC Prepare Email for Archiving task earlier in the task route before you add the IBM Content Classification task. To ensure that attachments are available for classification, clear the Save native message files without attachments check box in this new instance of the EC Prepare Email for Archiving task.

  4. Optional: Configure Content Collector to send document metadata properties to Content Classification. By default, Content Classification receives only the document content. For more information, see Passing document metadata to Content Classification
Restriction: This step is applicable only if you use Content Collector version 3.0.
  5. Enable the results from Content Classification decision plan processing to be available in Content Collector. For each decision plan output field that you want to use in Content Collector, create a user-defined metadata property and map it to the decision plan output field. For more information, see Mapping Content Classification properties to Content Collector metadata properties
  6. Use the user-defined metadata or system metadata from the IBM Content Classification task in other tasks or decision points in the task route. For more information, see the following topics:
  7. To store a history of the classification decisions, configure the audit task in your task route to log the user-defined metadata properties that are mapped to decision plan fields. For more information, see Using audit logs
  8. Optional: To enhance interactive archiving functions provided by the Content Collector email client integrations, install the Content Classification email client integration. For more information, see Installing the Content Classification email client integration
  9. To enable audits of the classification performance, configure Classification Center to access your repository. Use the Classification Center to periodically verify that the correct knowledge base categories and decision plan actions were applied when documents were ingested. For more information, see the following topics: After you set up the integration between Classification Center and your repository, select the content to review.
