System maintenance

Maintenance of the system includes using scripts, processes, and programs that enable the Tivoli Netcool Performance Manager server to run at optimal performance levels. System maintenance tasks include the following tasks:

Schedule administration
The scheduler process is configured to run certain standard administrative jobs on scheduled dates and times.
Reporting on server status
Some health checks can be performed on the system to verify it is stable.
Managing the Oracle database
Describes in detail the available database management functions.
Database space administration
The dbspace_admin tool allows you to monitor database space usage, add tablespaces, drop tablespaces, add datafiles and modify datafiles.
Partition maintenance
Partition maintenance is a system maintenance job, which is responsible for the creation, deletion and optimization of date range partitioned tables.

Working with log files
Crontab entries are used to manage log files and report generation.
Loader LIF file directory
The archive_loader_data script is used to archive .lif files.
Java client processes
If a JavaTM client process requires an extensive use of memory and the default Java heap size is insufficient, then the process can fail with an OutOfMemoryError Java exception.
Backing up file system
To protect the system from loss of data, regular file system backups must be made in addition to backing up the Oracle database.
