Monitoring

CICS® provides statistics, monitoring, and tracing tools that you can use to get information about the running of a CICS system. You can use the offline utility programs cicssfmt, cicsmfmt, and cicstfmt to format the information that these tools provide. You can then analyze the formatted data to provide information about any resource contention or other problems that can affect the performance of your CICS system.

The sample program cicsmfmt formats only a subset of the monitoring data. The sample program cicssfmt provides a basic listing of the statistics.

You can tailor these tools and offline programs to provide information at specific event points or time intervals in the running of the CICS system. You can also tailor them to specify the types of data about which CICS is to provide the information.

With the CICS system, you can use different methods to collect different types of statistics. You can also enable the use of journals and auxiliary tracing with your CICS system.
