You can create a data item that is associated with an area on a geospatial map and added
to a data source. The data item is added to the map and to the list at the same time.
About this task
Select a data source and a start position on the map to associate with your new data item. Then,
draw the shape to represent the area on the map and enter values of the properties that are relevant
to an item for the data source.
Note: It is possible to add a data item that is not covered by your current filter settings. In that case, the item is added to the solution, but it is not displayed on the map or list unless the filter settings are changed to include it.
Procedure
- Add an item to the map. In the New Item window, select a data source from
the data item type list to see all of the associated geometries or markers. The data sources that
are available for selection are those data sources that are associated with each particular filter
pane.
- Drag your selected geometry type or marker to the map in the location that you want for your
new data item.
- You can create a data item that is associated with an area or a line that you draw on the map,
and then the data item is added to a data source.
- To draw an area on the map, click the required start position on the map and then click each
corner of a polygon to draw your shape on the map. Double-click to finish the polygon. A new area is
displayed on the map.
- If you are drawing a line, multi-line or multi-polygon, select the drawing tool from the
available geometries that are displayed, and click the required start position on the map.
Double-click to finish drawing a line, or a line in a multi-line, or a polygon in a multi-polygon.
If you draw a multi-line or multi-polygon on the map, click Done Drawing when
you finish drawing.
The Add New Item window opens.
- Complete the appropriate fields for the properties of the data item. Properties that are marked
with an asterisk are required for the successful creation of the new item. Those properties that are
not marked with an asterisk are optional.
The location field is always completed automatically with the word 'Polygon' and the latitude and
longitude coordinates of the positions that represent the area shape on the map. Depending on the
data source configuration, other properties of the new data item can be completed automatically.
- To add the item or items to the map, click Save.
Results
A shape that represents the area of the new item is displayed on the map. You can view the
details of the new item on a preview card from the map, or from a row in the list. If a data source
is configured as data for boundary, the new area name is available for selection on the
Where pane of the filter.
Note: To create a new data item that is represented
by a point position on the geospatial map, see the link at the end of topic. Data items that are
represented by lines, or other multi-point shapes, can be added to the map only when received from a
data source as a result of polling. Location map markers are added to the geospatial map as a result
of configuration in the Location Map configuration tool.
