Preparing the environment for automated tasks

The deployment planning tools and the topologies that you create in them can help you model and plan automated deployment tasks. The first step in running these tasks is to set up an automation environment and connect to the environment.

Before you begin

These steps are required for deployment automation with IBM® Rational® Build Forge® but not for deployment automation with Apache Ant.

Deployment automation requires the IBM Rational Software Architect Extension for Deployment Automation Planning.

About this task

Follow these steps to connect to an automation environment and configure it to run automated tasks from the deployment planning tools:

Procedure

  1. Install the Rational Build Forge client. See Installing the Rational Build Forge client.
  2. Connect the client to Rational Build Forge. See Connecting the client to Rational Build Forge.
  3. Configure the automation environment to run tasks from the deployment planning tools. See Configuring the automation environment.

Results

After you configure the environment to run automated tasks, you can model the automated tasks in the topology editor and publish those tasks to be run on the automation environment.
