Configuring app settings in the IBM MaaS360 Portal

Configure app settings for administrators.

Procedure

  1. From the IBM® MaaS360® Portal home page, select Setup > Settings, and click App Settings. You can also go to the App Catalog settings from Apps > Catalog > More > App Settings.
  2. Review the following Basic App Catalog settings.
    Option Description
    Catalog Settings
    • Simple Mode
Suggested for customers with fewer apps. All apps in the user App Catalog are displayed in a single window.
    • Advanced Mode
Suggested for customers with many apps. The apps are separated into different sections to make it easier for users to explore and find apps. You can also mark certain apps as Featured apps to display those apps under the Featured section and highlight those apps in the auto-sliding carousel in the user App Catalog.
    Auto-Update Settings
      1. iOS App Updates Settings
        • Automatic Updates - Fully controlled by Administrator
Administrators can configure automatic app updates at the individual app level. If this setting is enabled, the Update Automatically field is displayed in the following workflows.
          • Add iTunes App Store app
          • iTunes App Store app summary
          • Upgrade Enterprise app for iOS
          • Enterprise app for iOS app summary
        • Automatic Updates - Fully controlled by End User
Users can configure the App Catalog to enable or disable app updates for all apps. If this setting is enabled, administrators cannot set up automatic app updates because the Update Automatically field is not available to administrators.
        • Disable Auto Update
Apps do not receive automatic updates. Users must install updates manually when an update is available for an app.
      2. Android App Updates Settings
The users can control when the automatic app updates on the Android devices can be applied for Play Store apps.
Note: This option is supported only when app level Control App Updates is off or set to Default. Only Google Play Store apps are supported and the GMS family of apps are not supported.
Select the Enable Auto Updates for Play Store Apps checkbox.
        • Always
This option enables auto updates over wifi or cellular service that can increase mobile data usage.
        • Wi-Fi only
This option enables auto updates only when the device is connected to wifi.
Note: If the device cannot connect to a wifi network for too long, then Auto updates can happen through cellular.
        • Choice to the User
This option enables the device's user to configure the app update policy in the Managed Play Store.
        • Never
This option disables the auto updates on the device.
        Notes:
        • If Google determines that an app update fixes a critical security vulnerability, then Google can make certain app updates. These updates occur regardless of update settings in the app or on your device.
        • The constraints can be relaxed when they are not met within a reasonable time frame. For example, if a device does not connect to wifi for some time, then updates can occur over cellular service.
        • Android devices maintain a single version of an app, even if the app is installed in both the personal profile and the work profile modes. This rule means that the apps that are installed in both profiles are updated at the same time. Hence, it is not possible to prevent app updates on a work profile since apps can be updated from the personal profile.
        • The policy might take a few hours to reach all the devices.
App Review Settings If this setting is disabled, the following changes apply to app reviews and app ratings.
    • The Reviews section is disabled and hidden in the user App Catalog on iOS and Android devices for a customer. The user is not allowed to provide or view reviews for an app.
    • The Reviews from users section is disabled and hidden on the App Summary page in the Portal. App reviews are not visible to the administrator.
    • The Enterprise App Rating column in the App Catalog on the Portal is hidden. The app rating is not visible to users.
Android Enterprise Settings The selected options are available for administrators when the Android Enterprise apps are added to the App Catalog.
App Configuration Settings Enable feedback for app configuration:

If the setting is enabled, the devices can share the distributed App configuration or OEMConfig status. The user can track App Configuration and OEMConfig status report on the respective configuration status page and the device status report in the device configuration status dashboard.

For more information on tracking status of OEMConfig profile, see Tracking the status of the Android OEMConfig profile.

For more information on tracking status of App config profile, see Tracking the status of the Android App Config profile.

    iOS App Management Settings
    • Select Default App Store Region for iOS devices
Displays the selected region as the default App Store region, but users can change the region in the user App Catalog.
    • Prompt User during enrollment to select Apple ID region for VPP Licensing
Users are prompted to select an Apple ID region for Apple Volume Purchase Program (VPP) license during device enrollment.
    • Convert apps in the app catalog to managed on devices where they are installed from another source
MaaS360 prompts users to convert apps that are installed from other sources to managed apps. For iOS version 9.0 and later devices, MaaS360 automatically detects the list of unmanaged apps. Unmanaged apps on supervised devices are automatically converted to managed apps. On unsupervised devices, unmanaged apps are converted to managed apps when an administrator pushes an instant update or a user installs an update from the user App Catalog.
    Derived PIV Credentials Settings
Certificate authority for Derived Credential Authentication
Choose one of the following certificate authorities to authenticate the mobile device personal identity verification (PIV) credentials.
    • Entrust
    • Purebred
    • Intercede
  3. Review the following Apps Purchase Program settings.
    Option Description
Volume Purchase Program The Apple Volume Purchase Program (VPP) allows an organization to purchase Apple applications (apps) in bulk and distribute those apps to employees through MaaS360 MDM and the App Catalog. For more information, see Apple VPP Managed License Integration Guide.
