Enrolling Zebra devices in bulk

Before you begin

The following files must be downloaded as a part of the bulk enrollment configuration in the IBM® MaaS360® Portal.

  • IBM MaaS360 agent app (.apk)
  • IBM MaaS360 for Zebra helper app
  • Bulk enrollment configuration file

About this task

You can enroll many Zebra devices by using the StageNow tool. StageNow is an automation tool that enables organizations to easily enroll thousands of Zebra devices with a quick scan of a bar code. You can scan a 2D scan code from the device to enroll Zebra devices into IBM MaaS360.

Procedure

  1. Open the StageNow tool and click Create New Profile.
  2. On the Select a Wizard window, select an MX version. Click Xpert Mode and click Create.
  3. Provide a profile name and click Start.
  4. On the Add/Edit window, expand the settings to add three FileMgr, three AppMgr, and one DevAdmin settings, and click Add.
  5. On the profile configuration window, use the FileMgr configuration to copy the IBM MaaS360 for Android agent (.apk file) to a specified location on the device. Select the IBM MaaS360 agent in the Source File URI: field, provide the target path and file name in the Target Path and File Name field, and click Continue.
  6. Use the FileMgr configuration to copy the Zebra helper app to a specified location on the device. In the second FileMgr configuration, select the Zebra helper app in the Source File URI field, specify target path and file name in the Target Path and File Name field, and click Continue.
  7. Use the FileMgr configuration to copy the configuration file to a specified location on the device. In the third FileMgr configuration, select the configuration file in the Source File URI file, specify target path and file name in the Target Path and File Name field, and click Continue.
  8. Use the AppMgr configuration to install the MaaS360 agent on the device. Specify the MaaS360 agent path and name in the APK Path and Name field, select Install in the Action field, and click Continue.
    Note: The filename and path for the MaaS360 agent in the FileMgr and AppMgr must be the same filename and path.
  9. Use the second AppMgr configuration to install the MaaS360 for Zebra helper app on the device. Specify the path for the MaaS360 for Zebra helper app in the APK Path and Name field, select Install in the Action field, and click Continue.
    Note: The filename and path for the MaaS360 agent in the FileMgr and AppMgr must be the same filename and path.
  10. Use the DevAdmin configuration to grant MaaS360 app with device administrator permissions. In the Device Administrator Action field, select Turn On as Device Administrator and provide the following details.
    Device Administrator Package Name
    com.fiberlink.maas360.android.control
    Device Administrator Class Name
    com.fiberlink.maas360.android.control.receivers.Maas360DeviceAdminReceiver
  11. Use the third AppMgr configuration to start the IBM MaaS360 application. Provide the application name in Application Name field, select Launch an application in the Action field, and click Continue.
  12. In the Review tab, review the staging profile and click Complete Profile.
    A barcode is successfully generated.
  13. Scan the 2D code on the device by using the StageNow client to automatically enroll the device into IBM MaaS360.
