What is a package?
In the Packages app, a package (also called a digital package) is a collection of digital assets (files, folders, video, images, etc.) that you gather to send to one or more individuals or user groups, or to an Aspera on Cloud shared inbox. When you send a package, Aspera on Cloud creates copies of the content you attach for each recipient; the source content remains unchanged.
Introduction
For a procedure, see Quick start: Send files and folders.
Aspera on Cloud allows you to use your Finder or Explorer to browse your local desktop, hard drive, or a remote source to select content to add to the package. You can also drag and drop content from any of these sources to the package as you construct it.
You can also attach files and folders in your Files app as you create a digital package in the Packages app; simply right-click the items in your Files app to include in the package and select the option to send. You can add content to a package you initiate from the Files app.
Once you are satisfied with the contents of the package, you can send it to the recipients you designate. Recipients can be:
- One or more of the following:
- Aspera on Cloud users or groups in your workspace
- All members of your Aspera on Cloud workspace (depending on settings configured by your admin)
- Aspera on Cloud users outside your workspace, or users who do not have an Aspera on Cloud account (depending on settings configured by your admin)
- An Aspera on Cloud shared inbox (depending on settings configured by your admin)
Once you have sent the package, you must recall it to add, change, or remove the content in it. Your recipients can view, move, download, change or delete the copies of the content you send them without affecting the source content. For more information, see Should I send or share?
Monitor package transfer
Sending a package initiates a FASP transfer;
if desired, you can monitor the transfer in the transfer
panel
. You can also view statistics for recent,
completed transfers.
Your Inbox and Sent folders
When the transfer completes, Aspera on Cloud displays the package in your recipient's Inbox and in your Sent folders. From that location, you and your recipient can do the following:
- Open the package to view its contents, along with summary details about the transfer, including status, size, average rate, duration, whether the package has been downloaded by recipients, and other information.
- Download all or part of the content to your local machine or to a remote storage location.
- Move package contents directly into your Files app.
Drafts folder
When a package transfer fails to start, AoC displays a toast message and moves the package to the Drafts folder in your Packages app. You must resend the Draft package with the intended content. See Resending "Draft" packages.
Package details panel
You can click any package row to display the package contents and the package details panel. Click More detail to see package info like size, date, and contents (except archived and deleted packages), average transfer speed, package metadata if applicable, package recipients, and which recipients have downloaded all or part of the package.
