Creating precaution records

A precaution is a preventive measure that you take to ensure the safety of the plant and of its personnel. You create precaution records to help employees reduce the hazards that are associated with workplace tasks. The precautions that are associated with permits to work identify the measures that must be taken to ensure safety.

About this task

You use the Precautions application to define the precautions that are associated with hazards. You can associate types of precautions that need to be taken with permits to work that are active. When you define a risk assessment for a permit to work, you specify the hazards that are associated with a work activity. You also specify the precautions that are associated with the hazard.

  1. In the Hazards application, define the hazards that you can associate with precautions.
  2. In the Precautions application, click New Precaution.
  3. Specify an identifier for the precaution.
  4. Specify whether the precaution is personal.
  5. Specify the type of precaution that is needed, such as personal or process safety.
  6. Save the precaution.
