A precaution is a preventive measure that you take to ensure the safety of the plant and of its personnel. You can take precautions that are personal, such as wearing protective clothing in a hazardous environment. You can also institute safety and control processes to ensure the maintenance of the plant and to eliminate hazards.

If you are going to be exposed to sulfuric acid during the performance of a task, you would want to wear protective headgear and protective clothing.
