Returning isolation certificates

To ensure that personnel are aware that the location or the asset is returned to a safe condition, you specify the status of the work activities. If the work is not complete, then the details about the work that was done must be communicated to the team that is taking over the tasks.

About this task

The team members who are responsible for returning the isolation certificate to another team must describe the steps that were taken to remove the isolations. For isolations, care must be taken to ensure that important details are communicated. You can include details when you want to focus attention on safety issues or other information.

Procedure

  1. In the Isolation Management application, select the isolation certificate for which you want to specify return details.
  2. On the Handback Details table of the Handback and Cancellation tab, specify whether the work was completed, and who did the work. The signoff date and time are specified by the issuing authority.
  3. Specify whether the plant was returned to a safe condition, and the person who is confirming that the plant is returned to a safe condition. The signoff date and time are specified by the issuing authority.
  4. Specify the details of whether the isolations were verified as removed, whether the plant was returned to production, and whether the isolations were removed. The signoff dates are specified by the isolation authority and the signoff times by the issuing authority.
  5. Save the record.

Example

During maintenance work, it might be necessary to isolate an electrical circuit breaker. When you are ready to return the isolation certificate, you reactivate the circuit breaker when it is safe to do so. You then specify in the isolation certificate that the isolation was removed.
