Associating data items

You can associate data items that are from associated data sources, if manual association is configured for the data sources. For example, you might want to associate a data item from a traffic observation data source with a data item from a data source that is used to initiate emergency calls.

Information for an administrator

Before you begin

Your administrator must configure a manual association between two data sources whose data items you want to associate. For more information about associating data sources, see the related link. If your administration has configured a data source association that uses dynamic association, the associations between data items are created automatically.

Your administrator can customize the full properties window tabs component so that an Associations tab is displayed when you click More details on the preview card for a data item.

About this task

The configuration of the data source association determines whether you can associate either one, or many, data items from one data source to the other data source. You can create only manual associations between items that are visible either on the map, or in the list. However, the associated items total that is displayed in the Manage Associated Items window includes all associated items.

Procedure

On the preview card for a data item, you can choose from the following options:
  • To add, remove, and view manually associated items, click Actions > Manage Associated Items.
  • To highlight associated items on the map, click Actions > Highlight Associated Items.
  • To view all associated items on the map regardless of what you select in the Filter window, click Actions > View All Associated Items. Alternatively, click More details on the preview card and, if the tab is displayed, click the Associations tab.
