Filtering inventory items from a file

In addition to filtering inventory items from the user interface, you can also filter inventory items from a file. To filter inventory items from values that are preconfigured in a CSV or XLSX spreadsheet file, use the Filter From File function.

Procedure

  1. From the Add Filter drop-down menu, select Filter From File.
  2. The Filter From File window displays allowing you to add files to act as filters. Choose one of the following methods to add a file:
  3. Click Choose File. A file explorer native to the user's local operating system will be presented.
  4. Navigate to the destination folder, select, and load the desired spreadsheet file.
  5. Open a folder with the required file, or expose the file on the desktop.
  6. Click and drag the file to the Filter From File window.
  7. Release the file in the window to drop it.

Results

The Filter From File function enables you to pass multiples values by using a single spreadsheet instead of manually entering multiple values, which can be time-consuming.

Note: Multiple files cannot be passed simultaneously.

File prerequisites:

  • In order for a file to be accepted as valid it must be in CSV or XLSX spreadsheet format.
  • The header row of the spreadsheet must contain at least one column name which corresponds to a name in the database headers or at least one translated column name.
  • Native upload
  • Drag and drop

Results: After your file is successfully uploaded, the file is analyzed for correctness.

Notes:

  • A tally of the total rows, success rows, and error rows is presented.
  • The success rows are used as the filter arguments.
  • Item records that correspond to the success rows will be returned in the filter results.
  • If the file completely fails validation then the filter is not applied.

The Filter from File function can be used in combination with other filters. However, if Filter From File is the only filter being applied, then the Save New View function is unavailable. Also, if you attempt to save a filter stack which uses the Filter From File function, the Filter From File function is not saved.

The Filter from File function is persistent, which means that it remains in effect despite a page reload or logout. Filter From File must be manually removed. If it is required to be restored the same file must be applied as a filter again.
