Application monitoring

Perhaps the most effective and efficient way of collecting data set-level I/O statistics is to forego setting collection options for DASD volumes or groups and instead use the Application Monitoring feature. This allows you to monitor all I/O for a job or started task down to the data set level. If the data sets move to different volumes, the monitoring moves with them. In this way, you can avoid incurring the CPU overhead of monitoring for a larger group of DASD than is actually required. For more information about this feature, see IBM® OMEGAMON® for Storage on z/OS® User’s Guide.
